A mountain landslide struck a village in Chengxiang township, Tianquan county, Sichuan province, on Saturday, resulting in five fatalities and two injuries, according to local authorities.
The landslide took place around 1:25 pm in Longwei village, along a section of National Highway 318. A substantial volume of debris, estimated at 10,000 cubic meters, cascaded down the mountainside. This debris obstructed approximately 50 meters of the highway, engulfing three trucks and a motorcycle.
In response to the disaster, an emergency response command center was immediately formed to oversee rescue and relief efforts. Search operations involved the deployment of machinery, search dogs, and drones to locate those missing. Furthermore, slope radars, laser monitoring systems, and additional drones were utilized to monitor for potential geological hazards.
By Tuesday morning, the rescue operation had concluded. The section of highway previously blocked by the landslide debris was subsequently reopened, as reported by the authorities.
