China expressed its willingness to collaborate with Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states to solidify the SCO's role as a stabilizing force amidst global instability and shifting geopolitical dynamics. Defense Minister Dong Jun conveyed this message during the annual defense ministers' meeting held in Qingdao, Shandong province.
Dong emphasized China's commitment to working with all member states to achieve the SCO's founding objectives. This includes upholding the "Shanghai Spirit," safeguarding international fairness and justice, addressing security challenges collectively, and fostering consistent cooperation in defense and security. The aim is to strengthen support for a shared community characterized by solidarity, mutual trust, peace, stability, prosperity, development, good neighborliness, friendship, and justice.
The meeting saw all participants agreeing to enhance strategic communication and practical cooperation to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability. The gathering, the 22nd of its kind, included defense chiefs from SCO member states, along with officials from the SCO Secretariat and the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure.
Furthermore, Dong held separate meetings with the SCO Secretary-General and the defense ministers of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and India. He highlighted the SCO's significance in promoting true multilateralism and maintaining global strategic stability. The Qingdao meeting, he noted, demonstrated the member states' resolve to uphold the "Shanghai Spirit" and deepen solidarity and cooperation.
The Chinese minister urged SCO member states to collectively implement the meeting's consensus, address challenges posed by unilateralism, protectionism, and hegemonism, and contribute to regional prosperity and stability. China is prepared to strengthen collaboration with the defense departments and militaries of all member states to advance defense and security cooperation, contributing to a closer SCO community with a shared future.
