The Chinese Ministry of Finance announced on Wednesday the allocation of 150 million yuan (approximately $20.97 million) from the central natural-disaster-relief fund. This funding is designated to aid regions grappling with the effects of flooding, typhoons, and geological disasters.
The emergency funds, jointly distributed by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Emergency Management, are being channeled to six provincial-level regions. These include Zhejiang, Fujian, Sichuan, Chongqing, the Xizang Autonomous Region, and Gansu.
China is currently in its primary flood season, leading to frequent occurrences of flooding and geological disasters in various areas. Furthermore, Danas, the fourth typhoon of the year, has impacted several southeastern coastal regions, resulting in secondary disasters.
The allocated funds will be utilized to bolster emergency rescue and relief operations. Key priorities include search and rescue efforts, as well as the relocation of residents impacted by the disasters. Additional uses for the funds encompass the detection of secondary disasters and the repair of damaged housing.

Investing in emergency rescue and relief shows that the government cares about its citizens during crises.

I doubt this funding will make a real difference. Past relief efforts have seen little impact in the long run.

Why is so much money spent on disaster relief when better preventive measures could be taken to avoid these situations?

Aren't there other sectors like education and healthcare that also need urgent funding? This seems misplaced.
