Chinese Military Enhances Defense Collaboration Within Shanghai Cooperation Organization

The Chinese military has expressed its commitment to enhancing defense collaboration with other nations that are part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This announcement was made by defense spokesman Zhang Xiaogang during a press conference held in Beijing, coinciding with the SCO Defense Ministers' Meeting taking place in Qingdao, Shandong province. Zhang noted that the meeting, chaired by Defense Minister Dong Jun, represents a significant step for China as it holds the rotating chairmanship of the SCO this year.

Zhang emphasized that throughout the SCO's history, cooperation in defense and security has been crucial. He highlighted China's proactive efforts to promote strategic dialogue and deepen practical cooperation among member states, pointing to several initiatives that have been undertaken. These include hosting or participating in various high-level meetings such as those for defense ministers and chiefs of general staff, which facilitate dialogue and consensus on international and regional security matters.

Additionally, China has not only hosted events like the Peace Mission joint exercises but has also engaged in professional exchanges covering fields such as military medicine and translation. This multifaceted approach has helped strengthen ties among service members of SCO countries, fostering friendship and mutual trust.

To further these efforts, the Chinese military aims to carry forward the Shanghai Spirit, working together with other SCO members to enhance defense partnerships.
