Construction Begins on Yunfu Experimental School to Enhance Education in Guangdong

The Yunfu Experimental School, a significant project initiated by Beijing Normal University, officially commenced construction on Wednesday in Yunfu, Guangdong province. This new educational facility aims to enhance the quality of education available in the rural area, providing a comprehensive learning environment by encompassing primary, junior, and senior high schools.

Set to open its doors for student enrollment in September of the following year, the school is expected to have the capacity to accommodate 4,710 students at the primary and middle school levels. The development of the school represents a strategic effort by local education authorities to mitigate the educational disparities present in western Guangdong and to foster the overall improvement of basic education in the province.

The construction of this high-standard educational institution is projected to cost more than 680 million yuan, or approximately $95.77 million. Located in the Yuncheng district, the school will feature a total of 48 classes dedicated to roughly 1,680 primary school students, alongside 42 classes for junior high school pupils and 30 for those in senior high school.

Beyond classrooms, the school design includes a variety of facilities such as science labs, libraries, canteens, dormitories for both students and teachers, lecture halls, sports complexes, and other essential amenities. Among the outdoor features is a standard 400-meter athletics track and multiple basketball courts, all aimed at providing a well-rounded educational experience.

This marks the fourth experimental school that Beijing Normal University has partnered to build in cooperation with cities in Guangdong, and notably, it is the first such institution developed in the more remote areas of the province. The establishment of this school is a crucial step towards addressing the inequality and inadequacy in basic education within the region, according to the statements released by Yunfu's education department.
