As of 6:40 pm Thursday, local authorities in Yunnan province confirmed the deaths of two individuals previously reported missing in Weixin county of Zhaotong. The fatalities occurred following torrential rains that struck the region.
Zhaotong has been grappling with widespread heavy rainfall since 7 am on Tuesday. The intense weather has led to severe flooding and landslides throughout the area. In Heilong village of Weixin, the floods caused the destruction of two residential houses.
In response to the disaster, Zhaotong has mobilized resources from various sectors to conduct emergency rescue and disaster relief operations. By 7 pm on Thursday, over 7,200 residents had been successfully evacuated to safer locations.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing for the three individuals who remain missing. Authorities continue to work diligently to locate and assist those affected by the devastating weather.
