Deck Reception aboard CNS Shandong to Celebrate Naval Visit to Hong Kong

the Yan'an, Zhanjiang, and Yuncheng.

Following a welcome ceremony held at the PLA Hong Kong Garrison's naval base on Stonecutters Island, Captain Wu Kang announced that on Friday morning, Hong Kong students would have a unique opportunity to tour the Shandong. This tour is complemented by a national-defense lecture from fleet officers at the barracks, aimed at educating and engaging local youth.

The Shandong, which is anchored near Victoria Harbour, will open its doors to the general public on Saturday, while the Zhanjiang and Yuncheng will welcome visitors on Sunday. The PLA has made available 10,000 complimentary tickets for these tours through its WeChat account, including 2,000 specifically for the Shandong, allowing many individuals to experience this significant naval visit.

Captain Wu highlighted that this visit provides a rare chance for local residents to observe China's advancements in naval warfare, as all ships in the fleet are active-duty vessels of the Chinese Navy. He characterized the strike group as a "highly capable" and visually impressive force that has navigated vast oceans, showcasing China's maritime strength.

During the public tours, attendees will interact with naval personnel and marines, who will demonstrate tasks such as small arms handling and signal flag communication. Additionally, the visiting officers are set to engage in friendly sports competitions, including football and tug-of-war, with the PLA Hong Kong Garrison and local disciplinary forces to foster camaraderie and understanding.

Captain Wu expressed delight at seeing the beautiful skyline of Victoria Harbour and the warm reception from crowds when the fleet arrived earlier in the day. As the ships entered Hong Kong waters around 8 am, a spectacular display featured the Shandong's flight deck lined with 12 fighter jets and over 700 sailors forming the phrase "guo an jia hao," conveying a message of patriotism and goodwill towards the people of Hong Kong.

Naval warfare? Sounds like promoting conflict and aggression. Not my cup of tea.

Free tickets? Sounds like a blatant attempt to win over hearts and minds. What's the real agenda here?

Who gets to decide which 'local youth' get access to this indoctrination, er, I mean, tour?
