U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that a summit between President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping is probable. This assessment followed Rubio's initial in-person meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, which took place in Malaysia.
Rubio characterized his meeting with Wang on Friday as "very constructive and positive." This positive interaction built upon the improving relationship between the two countries, particularly after Trump had recently described their recent interactions as "really good." The meeting was viewed as a potential precursor to a summit between the two leaders. Trump had previously expressed his desire for such a summit to occur within the current year.
Rubio stated to reporters in Kuala Lumpur, where the envoys were attending a meeting organized by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, that there was a strong mutual interest in holding the summit. He further suggested that the likelihood of the summit taking place was high, adding that the two nations would work to identify a suitable date for the event.

The more Trump deals with China, the more China grows in power. Look what happens to any agreements.

Progress can be fragile, but it is still better than conflict. This seems like a step in the right direction.

Sounds like the Trump administration is softening their positions to the Chinese, it makes no sense.

This is just the US-China diplomatic dance again, and it always protects Chinese power. It probably will not make a difference.

Another photo op. Trump will just give away the farm in exchange for empty promises, per usual.
