Trump Announces U.S. Weapon Supply to Ukraine Through NATO

President Donald Trump recently revealed that the United States will provide weapons to Ukraine through NATO, emphasizing a new arrangement wherein NATO will handle the costs associated with these arms. During an interview with NBC News, Trump indicated that he would be delivering a major statement on Russia the following Monday, although he did not provide further details about that announcement.

Trump highlighted the framework of this deals, stating, "We're sending weapons to NATO, and NATO is paying for those weapons, 100 percent." This approach involves transferring U.S. arms to NATO, which will then deliver them to Ukraine, with NATO assured to reimburse the full expense.

As Trump prepares to send arms to Ukraine, he is expected to utilize the Presidential Drawdown Authority, a power often exercised by his predecessor to assist allies in emergencies. Reports suggest that arms from U.S. stockpiles could be worth approximately $300 million, with potential inclusion of defensive Patriot missiles and medium-range offensive rockets, though specifics were still being decided in recent meetings.

While Trump's administration has previously authorized arms shipments to Ukraine, largely mirroring policies set by former President Joe Biden, this development marks a notable shift since Trump took office.
