The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) announced that the technical fault experienced by a tank during a National Day Parade (NDP) national education show on July 5 was an isolated incident. This conclusion was reached after the Singapore Army completed its investigation into the event.
MINDEF stated in a media release on Friday, July 11, that this was the first instance of such a technical malfunction within the Singapore Army's Leopard 2SG Main Battle Tank (L2SG) fleet.
The tank involved was part of the mobile column, a display of Singapore's military equipment during the NDP celebrations. The incident occurred when the tank collided with a traffic light while turning towards North Bridge Road within the designated area.
MINDEF emphasized that all mobile column assets, including the L2SGs, undergo rigorous pre-deployment checks. No issues were identified with the affected L2SG prior to its movement. Subsequent comprehensive checks across the entire L2SG fleet confirmed the isolated nature of the fault.
With the cause of the incident identified, rectified, and additional precautions implemented, the L2SGs will continue their participation in this year's NDP.

This is embarrassing on a national stage. Shouldn't our military be more prepared?

Rigorous checks? How 'rigorous' are we talking? I'm not reassured.

The army does a lot for our country. Let's support them and move forward.

L2SG fleet? Expensive equipment malfunctioning doesn't instill confidence in our defense capabilities.

They're keeping us informed, unlike a lot of other major incidents. Props for that.
