On Friday, South Korea, Japan, and the United States participated in a joint air drill. The exercise took place over international waters and involved a U.S. B-52 strategic bomber and fighter jets from both South Korea and Japan.
This marked the first instance this year of a U.S. B-52H strategic bomber being utilized in a drill on the Korean Peninsula. The primary objective of the drill was to enhance deterrence against the escalating nuclear and missile threats originating from North Korea.
Additionally, the defense chiefs of the three nations convened for their annual meeting in Seoul on the same day. During this meeting, they acknowledged the critical significance of robust trilateral cooperation in confronting the security challenges presented by North Korea, both within the Indo-Pacific region and globally.
