A federal judge has once again blocked the Trump administration from denying citizenship to certain babies born in the United States. This decision, issued on Thursday, utilized a legal exception to circumvent a recent Supreme Court ruling that limited the ability of judges to halt nationwide policies.
The ruling came from U.S. District Judge Joseph Laplante following a hearing in Concord, New Hampshire. Immigrant rights advocates had urged the judge to grant class action status to a lawsuit. The lawsuit aimed to represent children whose citizenship was at risk due to the implementation of Trump's executive order, which restricted automatic birthright citizenship.
This ruling is not the final word in the legal dispute surrounding Trump's order, which he signed shortly after taking office in January. Judge Laplante has paused the ruling for a week to allow the Trump administration time to appeal. A Justice Department lawyer present at the hearing indicated that an appeal was highly likely.

This ruling is a clear affirmation of the principle of citizenship for all babies born on American soil. Bravo!

Great news! The Trump administration's attempts to deny citizenship are unjust and discriminatory.

Children should not be punished for their parents' choices. Well done, Judge Laplante!
