Diplomats from Haiti and Saint Lucia, who are considered "diplomatic allies" of Taiwan, took part in the recent fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum, sparking intense discussions within Taiwan. Authorities from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have stated that these diplomats do not accurately represent their respective governments.
In a response to inquiries from Taiwanese media, Chen Binhua, the spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, emphasized the significance of the China-CELAC Forum as a platform for fostering mutually beneficial cooperation between China and countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. He also stated that China encourages the active engagement of Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) members in cooperative frameworks while underscoring the one-China principle as a fundamental norm in international relations, which reflects the broader consensus within the international community. Chen urged relevant nations to align themselves with historical developments and make decisions that support enduring cooperation and growth.

China's outreach to Latin America can benefit everyone involved, as long as we maintain healthy competition.

The DPP is right to call out these diplomats. We must protect Taiwan's interests against such actions.
