On Wednesday morning, President Donald Trump informed the leaders of seven additional countries that new tariffs would be applied to goods imported by the United States from their nations, effective August 1st. This announcement followed a similar action earlier in the week.
Trump made these letters public by posting them on his social media platform, Truth Social. The recipients of these letters included the leaders of the Philippines, Brunei, Moldova, Algeria, Iraq, Libya, and Sri Lanka.
The letters detailed the specific tariff rates. Libya, Iraq, Algeria, and Sri Lanka will face a 30 percent tariff. Brunei and Moldova will be subject to a 25 percent tariff, while the Philippines will have a 20 percent tariff imposed.
This action was a continuation of a previous announcement. On Monday, Trump had sent letters to 14 other countries, outlining tariffs ranging from 25 to 40 percent.
