On Saturday, a terror attack in the North Waziristan district of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province resulted in the deaths of at least 13 soldiers and injuries to 29 others, including 19 civilians. Security sources provided this information to Xinhua.
The attack targeted a military unit engaged in bomb disposal duties in the Khadi Market area of Mir Ali, North Waziristan. According to sources, a terrorist group was responsible.
The attackers initiated the assault by ramming an explosive-laden vehicle into a vehicle belonging to the bomb disposal unit. This was followed by indiscriminate gunfire directed at security personnel, leading to the casualties. The gunfire also injured numerous civilians, including women and children.
Following the attack, rescue teams and security forces arrived at the scene. They transported the deceased and injured to a nearby hospital. Some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.
A faction known as Usood-ul-Harb, affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Security forces have established a cordon around the area and initiated a search operation in the region. As of the time of reporting, there has been no official statement from the government or the Inter-Services Public Relations, the media wing of the Pakistan Army.
