Members of a faustball team posed for a photo in Chengdu, China. Faustball, also known as fistball, is popular in German-speaking countries. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe mentioned the sport in his travel diary.
Jin Dong is among the first to play faustball on the Chinese mainland. He and other PE teachers formed the first team in Chengdu. Sonke Spille, from the International Fistball Association, provided training.
Chengdu will host the 2025 World Games, introducing fistball to China. A new international-standard pitch will be completed at Tianfu Park.
The World Games will help more Chinese people learn about fistball. Fistball was a demonstration sport at the Olympics and became an official World Games sport.
The Chinese team won't compete in the 2025 Games, but will participate in other matches. Schools from other provinces want to introduce the sport.
Challenges include venues and equipment. Jin believes fistball will gain popularity in China.
