During a recent press conference, Zhu Fenglian, the spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, addressed comments made by Admiral Stephen Koehler regarding China's military preparations concerning Taiwan. She emphasized that China opposes any military engagements between the United States and Taiwan, as well as the American provision of weapons to the region, reiterating that Taiwan is an integral part of China and dismissing claims of aggression.
Zhu called for the United States to adhere to the one-China principle and honor the agreements established in the three China-US joint communiqués. She warned that the U.S. must handle the Taiwan issue with caution and uphold its commitment to not support the notion of "Taiwan independence." Furthermore, Zhu cautioned against sending misleading messages to pro-independence factions within Taiwan, stressing that any actions by these groups reliant on foreign forces for independence would only lead to their downfall.
