On July 3, 2025, a distressing maritime incident occurred near Bali Island, Indonesia, when the Tunu Pratama Jaya Penumpang Motor capsized. Reports from a senior official with the National Search and Rescue Agency revealed that at least three people lost their lives, while four individuals were rescued, leaving 58 passengers unaccounted for.
The wooden vessel encountered significant waves and strong currents while it was navigating the waters between Bali and East Java. According to I Nyoman Sidakarya, the head of the Search and Rescue Office in Bali, the ship was on a journey from Banyuwangi Regency in East Java to Gilimanuk village in Jembrana Regency, Bali.
In response to this tragic event, search and rescue teams have been deployed from both Bali and East Java, comprising 35 rescuers along with rescue vessels and rubber boats. At the time of the accident, the ship had a total of 53 passengers on board, in addition to 12 crew members, highlighting the need for an urgent search for those still missing.
