Typhoon Danas Prompts Yellow Alert, Threatening Southern China

The Chinese national observatory issued a yellow alert on Sunday, anticipating that Typhoon Danas will bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to southern regions of the country.

As of Sunday morning, the typhoon was positioned at 21.3 degrees north latitude and 118.1 degrees east longitude. It was moving northeast at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour, with its strength increasing. The National Meteorological Center (NMC) provided this information.

The typhoon is projected to traverse the Taiwan Strait from south to north, potentially either brushing past or making landfall along the western coast of Taiwan, from Sunday evening to Monday morning. On Monday, the typhoon will move into the East China Sea, gradually approaching coastal areas from northern Fujian to central and southern Zhejiang, according to the NMC.

From Sunday morning to Monday morning, strong gales are predicted to impact areas of the South China Sea, the Taiwan Strait, waters east of Taiwan, the Bashi Channel, and parts of the East China Sea. Coastal regions of Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang, and Taiwan island are also expected to experience these strong winds.

During the same timeframe, heavy to torrential rainfall is anticipated in southeastern Zhejiang, northeastern Fujian, and across Taiwan island. Certain areas of Taiwan may face extreme downpours, with precipitation potentially reaching up to 230 mm.

China employs a four-level, color-coded weather warning system for typhoons, with red indicating the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.

The National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center reported that due to the typhoon's influence, sea areas near Taiwan island, the South China Sea, and the coastal waters off Fujian, Guangdong, and Zhejiang will experience strong waves from Sunday noon to Monday noon.
