July 7 was a special day as it marked the second birthday of Rui Bao and Hui Bao, the beloved twin panda cubs born to Ai Bao and Le Bao, who currently reside at Everland theme park in South Korea. The park hosted a vibrant birthday party that attracted panda lovers from all over the country. According to CCTV News, the Chinese Ambassador to South Korea, Dai Bing, attended the festivities alongside park officials and citizens from both China and South Korea to celebrate the occasion.
During the celebration, Ambassador Dai expressed appreciation for the dedicated caretakers of the panda family. He emphasized that the panda duo serves as a symbol of friendship between China and South Korea, capturing the hearts of the public. He also mentioned Fu Bao, the first giant panda born in South Korea who has since returned to China, and highlighted a new visa-free policy for South Korean citizens wishing to visit China. Dai hopes that the public's fascination with pandas will foster a deeper interest and affection for China.
The birthday party was particularly significant as it was the last celebration the twins would have with their mother before they embark on their independent lives. The celebration included a lavish cake made of bamboo and flowers, alongside cooled rocks and bamboo toys for the pandas to enjoy. Zookeepers and around 40 fans dedicated their time to the festivities, singing songs and sharing warm wishes for Rui Bao and Hui Bao. The twins' caretaker, affectionately known as "Panda Grandpa," also joined in by delivering birthday wishes in Mandarin.
Many fans traveled to South Korea specifically for the pandas' birthday, showcasing a strong commitment to celebrating these national treasures. Attendees reported long lines and excitement to witness the event, which included exclusive commemorative badges and limited-edition themed menus at the park café. The dedication of the park's staff in caring for the pandas was noted as a testament to their affection for these animals.
Le Bao and Ai Bao arrived in South Korea in March 2016, beginning their stay at Everland. Their first cub, Fu Bao, was born on July 20, 2020, and the twins, Rui Bao and Hui Bao, celebrated their second birthday on July 7, 2023, becoming the first giant panda twins born in the country.

I'd rather see a focus on conservation efforts than birthday parties.
