In a recent announcement, China's cyber police revealed they have taken action on six cases this year concerning the online defamation of national heroes. This announcement was made on the 88th anniversary of the start of the country's resistance against Japanese aggression, a significant historical event.
Among the individuals involved is a netizen identified by the surname Wang, who was reported for repeatedly sharing derogatory posts aimed at national heroes in an effort to attract attention. Wang's content quickly gained traction, amassing over 10,000 views and causing significant damage to the reputation of these martyrs, as well as posing a risk to public interests. As a result, police conducted a thorough investigation and subsequently pursued legal action, leading to Wang's nine-month prison sentence for tarnishing the honor of heroes and martyrs.
Another individual, referred to as Xu, was found to have made inappropriate remarks aimed at the heroes of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Xu's comments also sparked considerable public outrage and resulted in negative societal repercussions, prompting local authorities to impose an administrative penalty.
Additionally, police reported on three other cases where netizens publicly misrepresented and minimized the sacrifices made during the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression on various online platforms. Those responsible faced administrative penalties as part of the legal response. Another netizen, known by the surname Li, faced similar consequences for publicly insulting revolutionary martyrs on social media, an act that evoked widespread anger and had a damaging social impact.
these cases highlight that cyberspace remains subject to legal regulations, and any act that disparages national heroes will face stringent repercussions. The historical context of these events dates back to July 7, when Japanese troops launched an attack on the Chinese garrison at Lugou Bridge, marking the beginning of a full-scale invasion that ignited a nationwide resistance in China.

This feels like an effort to control the narrative and whitewash history.
