In response to recent speeches by the Taiwan regional leader, Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, expressed strong disapproval. She stated that the leader's remarks disregarded significant opposition within Taiwan, further dividing public opinion and escalating provocative attempts to seek "independence." This, she argued, severely undermines cross-Straits relations.
Zhu noted that the leader's speech amplified the so-called "mainland threat" and reiterated the old rhetoric of "Taiwan independence," heightening hostility and confrontation. She characterized the remarks as fallacies that contradict legal principles, historical facts, and mainstream public opinion on the island.
Furthermore, Zhu criticized the leader for distorting UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 and challenging international law. She accused him of twisting concepts and confusing right and wrong to promote the fallacy of "mutual non-subordination," attempting to sever legal and historical links and harm national sentiments. She described these actions as a betrayal of the Chinese nation.
Zhu also accused the leader of manipulating "anti-China" rhetoric, smearing and slandering the mainland's efforts to improve the well-being of Taiwan compatriots. She stated that this revealed a deep-seated fear and resistance toward closer ties between the Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.
Zhu emphasized that Taiwan is part of China's territory, and the two sides of the Straits belong to one China, with compatriots on both sides being Chinese. She asserted that these truths are historically and legally established and cannot be denied.
She stressed that Taiwan's recovery after World War II was a key part of the postwar international order and a result of cross-Straits compatriots working together. She warned that any actions against the overall interests of the Chinese nation are destined to fail, and any attempt to split the country through "Taiwan independence" is a dead end.
Zhu highlighted the shared desire for peace, development, exchanges, and cooperation among people on both sides of the Straits. She affirmed a commitment to meeting the shared aspirations of compatriots for a better life, deepening peaceful and integrated development, and respecting, caring for, and benefiting Taiwan compatriots.
Finally, Zhu called on Taiwan compatriots to recognize the "Taiwan independence" nature of the leader's administration, see through their deceptions, and join hands with the mainland in supporting national reunification and peace across the Straits, working together for national rejuvenation.
