Trump Warns BRICS of Tariffs, Reiterates Dollar Dominance and Trade Deal Push

During a recent Cabinet meeting, President Donald Trump issued a warning to the BRICS group, stating that goods from these nations would face an additional 10% tariff. He alleged that the BRICS group was working to undermine the US dollar.

The BRICS bloc, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has been critical of Trump's tariff policies. These nations collectively represent a significant portion of the global economy and population. Trump's administration is currently focused on bilateral trade agreements, with new tariffs scheduled to begin on August 1 for countries that have not reached a deal with the United States.

Trump reiterated his belief in the strength of the US dollar, stating that it is the dominant currency and that those who challenge it will face consequences. He also emphasized the August 1 deadline for tariffs, noting that other countries have imposed high tariffs on the US. He clarified that no exceptions would be made for India, despite its status as a major US trade partner and BRICS member.

The President indicated that a trade deal with India is nearing completion. A final agreement might be signed during a high-level meeting later this month or during a visit to India in the fall. An interim or mini trade deal is likely to be announced soon, potentially excluding certain sensitive sectors.

The US is seeking reduced duties on agricultural products, medical devices, and industrial goods, while India wants preferential access for labor-intensive exports. The goal is to increase bilateral trade and enhance cooperation in various sectors.

Trump criticized previous administrations, stating that they would have allowed the US dollar to lose its dominance. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the dollar's status.

On social media, President Trump announced that tariffs would take effect on August 1, 2025, without any extensions.

He stated that the proposed tariff arrangements aim to ensure fairness and are open to negotiation if other countries are willing to make a fair deal. He added that his second term would outperform his first in terms of tariff collection and economic impact.

When asked about the August 1 deadline, Trump said it was firm but not 100% firm, and he would be open to alternative arrangements. He also confirmed that his administration had sent letters to 14 countries informing them of the reciprocal tariffs.

The President’s tough talk is refreshing! Too many past leaders have let foreign nations take advantage.

It's about time the US fights back against unfair trade practices. Tariffs are a necessary response!
