During the India Energy Storage Week, Philip Green, Australia's High Commissioner to India, reiterated the commitment his country has towards supporting India's ambition in renewable energy. He acknowledged India's critical role on the global stage while detailing the extensive involvement of Australian companies in this initiative, stating that over 22 companies and approximately 40 professionals from various Australian states are present.
Green noted the significant synergies between Australia and India, particularly in green technology and energy sectors. He pointed out Australia's strengths in essential minerals and metals, which are crucial for battery storage, as well as the skills and educational institutions that can facilitate the training of the Indian workforce in this emerging energy landscape.
He further highlighted Australia’s capabilities in innovation and technology, indicating that it possesses a high degree of green technology development, despite its smaller population which can limit supply chain capabilities. Green underscored the adaptability of Australian solutions within India's large market and articulated a vision for long-term collaboration between the two nations.
In previous statements, Green had stressed the importance of developing a more efficient supply chain for critical minerals like lithium to support India's green energy goals. He underscored Australia’s position as a key supplier of these minerals and its strategic relevance as a member of the Quad, focusing on ensuring that India has access to high-quality supplies necessary for its energy transition.
