On Tuesday, severe rains caused flash flooding in New Mexico, claiming at least three lives, including those of two young children aged four and seven, as confirmed by state officials and statements from the village of Ruidoso. The tragic outcome included a man who was swept away, and rescue operations were quickly launched to aid those trapped in their homes and vehicles.
Footage circulating on social media depicted alarming scenes, such as a house being swept uncontrollably downstream, colliding with trees while carried along by the floodwaters of the Rio Ruidoso. Danielle Silva, spokesperson for the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, expressed concern over the possibility of occupants being inside the house during the incident.
Local law enforcement and National Guard units coordinated emergency response efforts, performing approximately 85 swift-water rescues in and around Ruidoso as many individuals found themselves stranded. Silva reported that the river had swollen to a provisional record height of 6.2 meters at the flood's peak, and as water levels began to lower in the evening, search and recovery missions for potential survivors among the debris commenced.
This latest flooding incident follows closely on the heels of another catastrophic flash flood in Texas, which resulted in 109 fatalities, highlighting a troubling pattern of climate-related disasters. Silva pointed out that the severity of the current flooding in New Mexico was exacerbated by previous wildfires that had stripped the land of vegetation, resulting in more significant erosion and debris flow as it faced heavy rainfall. Ruidoso, known for its summer retreats and skiing opportunities, is located roughly 185 kilometers south of Albuquerque.

Let's wait for the investigations, there could be other reasons, not just nature.

Government overreach! They're probably going to use this as an excuse for more regulations.
