Jasper Philipsen, a Belgian cyclist, was forced to abandon the Tour de France on Monday. This decision came just two days after his victory in the opening stage of the race. The withdrawal was a direct result of a severe crash that occurred during the third stage, rendering him unable to continue.
The incident happened approximately 60 kilometers from the finish line. Philipsen was involved in a collision with Bryan Coquard during an intermediate sprint, causing him to fall heavily onto the road.
The impact of the crash tore Philipsen's jersey in multiple places, and he sustained visible scrapes and bleeding. Race medical personnel provided immediate attention to the injured rider. Philipsen, who was also the wearer of the green jersey, concludes his Tour de France participation on a disappointing note, despite his earlier stage win on Saturday. The race itself will continue its journey across France, culminating on July 27th.

Wonder if the organizers will do anything about the frequency of these crashes...Probably not.

Amazing to have seen him lead the stage. Now looking forward to the rest of The Tour.

Sixty kilometers? That's practically the beginning of the stage! His team really messed up.

I'm starting to think these crashes are more about luck than skill. Coquard needs to be more careful!

Let's hope this doesn't impact his season too badly. He'll be back stronger, I'm sure.
