In a recent interview with the Calgary Herald, Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed strong belief that a new oil pipeline connecting to the British Columbia coast will be recognized as a project of significant national importance to Canada. He mentioned the vast economic prospects and the country's available resources and expertise as key factors that support this likelihood.
Mr. Carney noted that the initiation of such projects should come from the private sector instead of being driven by government mandates. He highlighted a preference for a more organic approach, stating that the government would not dictate specific projects but rather allow the private sector to lead the proposal process.
During the annual Calgary Stampede, Carney also voiced support for a proposed $16.5 billion carbon capture project intended for Alberta's oil sands, suggesting that it too deserves consideration for inclusion on the national projects list. His remarks follow a recent Senate bill that aims to expedite the approval process for essential natural resource and infrastructure projects, which could encompass various initiatives, including oil pipelines and mines, while minimizing interprovincial trade obstacles.
As the fourth-largest oil exporter globally, Canada is looking to diversify its economic ties, particularly as it seeks to reduce reliance on the United States, which accounts for about 75 percent of its exports.

Another pipeline? Just what we need! More environmental disasters waiting to happen.

Doesn't he realize that the climate crisis is real? Canada needs to take a stand, not push for more fossil fuels.

It's frustrating to hear leaders prioritize profits over the environment. We need sustainable solutions, not more pipelines.
