On Monday, President Donald Trump will host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. This meeting is part of Trump's efforts to facilitate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and to work towards a deal for the release of hostages, aiming to conclude the ongoing war in Gaza.
Two U.S. officials, who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed the details of the visit but noted that they were not authorized to speak on the record. This will be Netanyahu's third trip to the White House since Trump assumed office in January, following recent U.S. military actions against Iranian nuclear facilities and initiatives to quell hostilities between Israel and Iran. Now, Trump's focus is squarely on resolving the conflict with Hamas.
Just last week, Trump expressed optimism about reaching a ceasefire within a week, although he did not elaborate on the basis for his belief. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt highlighted that the president is in consistent communication with Israeli leadership, emphasizing the urgency and importance of bringing the violence in Gaza to an end. She remarked on the distressing images emerging from both Israel and Gaza, affirming the administration's commitment to protecting lives and facilitating peace.
In addition to Netanyahu, Israeli Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer is also in Washington this week to engage in discussions regarding the Gaza war, Iran, and other critical issues with U.S. officials.

Let's remain optimistic. A ceasefire would be a huge step in the right direction.

I appreciate the administration's commitment to ending the conflict and supporting innocent lives.

I admire how the U.S. is trying to play a role in mediating a complex situation.

Trump can’t be trusted to mediate; his track record shows he doesn’t care about meaningful resolutions.

This is just another photo-op for Trump and Netanyahu. They're not genuinely interested in peace.
