A flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River, which marks the border between Nepal and China in Rasuwa district, has caused significant damage. The Miteri Bridge and several vehicles parked at the dry port were swept away by the floodwaters.
The flooding, which occurred early Tuesday morning, was triggered by heavy rainfall in Chinese territory. The Timure area on the Nepali side suffered infrastructure damage as a result.
According to the Chief District Officer of Rasuwa, approximately 200 vehicles were present at the customs port when the flash flood hit. The swollen river also destroyed the bridge connecting Nepal and China, leaving numerous traders stranded.
Search and rescue operations are underway, with the Nepal Army involved. Authorities are working to locate 12 Nepal Police personnel who are reportedly trapped in the area. The water level remains high, and the weather conditions are unfavorable.
Reports suggest that some individuals may have been swept away along with the vehicles. Authorities are currently verifying these claims. The flood struck the area around 3 am local time. While no human casualties have been confirmed, there are reports of people being swept away while sleeping in vehicles parked at the dry port.
The cause of the flash flood is still being investigated. Police suspect that heavy rainfall in the Tibetan region may have triggered the surge.
Local authorities have advised residents living along the Trishuli River to exercise caution following the incident.
