Indonesia and Singapore have reached an agreement to invest over US$10 billion in green energy projects. This collaborative effort signifies a significant advancement in regional sustainability efforts, as reported by the Indonesian news agency ANTARA.
The agreement, formalized through the signing of three memorandums of understanding, is expected to benefit both nations. Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, highlighted the importance of this partnership.
The substantial investment will facilitate the implementation of environmentally friendly energy policies. This includes the development of a solar panel supply chain, the advancement of carbon capture and storage technologies, and the establishment of green industrial zones.
Lahadalia emphasized that the investment's scale demonstrates the strong commitment of both countries to clean energy and the associated business opportunities within Southeast Asia. The funds will be allocated to various strategic areas.
These areas include large-scale solar panel installations, the development of carbon capture and storage facilities to establish regional leadership in carbon management, and the creation of green industrial zones that integrate low-emission supply chains across various sectors.
The investment is anticipated to generate a new economic ecosystem, leading to the creation of numerous jobs in areas such as solar panel and battery energy storage system production, as well as operations and maintenance.
Furthermore, the government projects that this initiative will generate up to US$6 billion in additional annual foreign exchange revenue and a substantial increase in tax revenues.
