On July 7, former Indian cricket team captain and celebrated athlete Kapil Dev visited the official residence of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in New Delhi. During their discussion, Kapil praised the government’s initiatives aimed at fostering sports development in the state under Revanth's leadership.
Revanth shared insights about the proposed establishment of the Young India Sports University in Telangana and highlighted the strategic measures being planned to enhance sports infrastructure and nurture talent locally. Kapil was notably impressed by these ambitions and expressed a desire to collaborate with the Telangana Government in enhancing the region's sports environment. He committed his support toward ensuring the success of the upcoming Sports University and contributing to various initiatives to cultivate young sporting talent.
The Chief Minister also recounted his recent experiences visiting sports institutions in South Korea and conversations with international sports professionals, which provided valuable perspectives. Attending the meeting were Special Secretary Ajit Reddy and Dr. Gaurav Uppal, the Secretary for Coordination of Central Schemes.
Kapil Dev is revered as a cricket legend, noted for his exceptional skills as an all-rounder. His influence remains significant in Indian cricket, particularly following his role as captain of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, an achievement that transformed the landscape of Indian sports and inspired future generations. Throughout his career, he participated in a total of 356 international matches, amassing 9,031 runs and taking 687 wickets. His illustrious career includes 131 Test matches, where he took 434 wickets and scored 5,248 runs, as well as 225 One Day Internationals (ODIs) where he achieved 253 wickets and 3,783 runs. Kapil's integrity and sportsmanship have made him a profound role model for aspiring cricketers.
