The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) released a report on Monday, revealing a 7 percent decrease in marriages in Singapore last year compared to the previous year. A total of 26,328 marriages were registered in 2024, a reduction from the 28,310 recorded in 2023.
Data from the Department of Statistics (SingStat), included in the MSF's family trends report, indicated a decline in civil marriages across nearly all age groups in 2024. The most significant drop was observed in the number of marriages involving individuals aged 25 to 34.
Specifically, 15,213 brides within the 25 to 34 age range married last year, representing an 8.9 percent decrease from the 16,707 recorded in 2023. Likewise, 13,615 grooms aged 25 to 34 entered into marriage in 2024, reflecting a 9 percent decrease from the 14,956 in 2023.
Of the total marriages in the past year, 21,144 were civil unions, a decrease from the 22,914 civil unions recorded in 2023.

7% decrease? This is concerning! What's driving people away from marriage?
