In Nagoya, newly promoted yokozuna Onosato and fellow yokozuna Hoshoryu participated in a traditional ring-entering ceremony at a local shrine. The event was held in anticipation of the upcoming Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament.
Approximately 5,000 spectators gathered at the Atsuta Jingu shrine to witness the performance. The crowd greeted the two sumo stars with enthusiastic applause.
The 15-day tournament is scheduled to begin on July 13 at the IG Arena, a new venue in the central Japanese city. This pre-tournament ceremony marked the first time since 2019 that two grand champions have performed the ritual together.
Onosato, accompanied by veteran komusubi Takayasu and maegashira Takanosho, captivated the audience with his display of strength and physique. Following the ceremony, Onosato expressed his sentiments. He acknowledged his recent promotion and the learning process ahead, while also expressing his joy at the experience.
