China to Deepen Defense Cooperation with SCO Members

The Chinese military is committed to strengthening defense cooperation with the militaries of other Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states. This commitment was announced by a defense spokesman during the SCO Defense Ministers' Meeting held in Qingdao, Shandong province.

The spokesman, Zhang Xiaogang, emphasized the significance of the high-level meeting, which was chaired by Defense Minister Dong Jun, as a key step in fulfilling China's role as the rotating chair of the SCO this year. He highlighted the crucial role of defense and security cooperation in the SCO's growth.

China has actively fostered strategic communication and substantive cooperation within the SCO framework. This includes organizing and participating in various meetings, such as the Defense Minister's Meeting and the Chiefs of General Staff Meeting. These events have facilitated dialogue and the exchange of perspectives among member states, leading to consensus-building and the promotion of the SCO's stance on international and regional security matters.

Moreover, China has hosted and participated in joint exercises, such as the Peace Mission series, and conducted professional exchanges in areas like military medicine and translation. These activities have served to deepen and solidify cooperation across various fields.

China has also focused on enhancing exchanges among service members of SCO member states. Seminars for officers at different levels have been initiated to strengthen friendship and mutual trust. The Chinese military aims to uphold the Shanghai Spirit and further expand defense cooperation with other SCO members. The ultimate goal is to build a shared community characterized by solidarity, peace, prosperity, good-neighborliness, and justice, contributing to a shared future for all.
