Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Arrested and Facing Deportation After Jake Paul Fight

The Independent provides on-the-ground reporting on significant issues, from reproductive rights and climate change to the influence of major tech companies. The organization investigates important topics, such as the financial dealings of prominent figures and produces documentaries that shed light on critical social issues. The goal is to provide factual information and analysis during a crucial period in US history.

The organization sends journalists to gather information and present both sides of the story. The Independent is a trusted source for Americans across the political spectrum. Unlike many other news outlets, The Independent does not use paywalls, believing that quality journalism should be accessible to everyone.

Former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has been arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and is awaiting deportation. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the arrest, which occurred shortly after Chavez Jr.'s loss to Jake Paul in Anaheim, California.

Chavez, a Mexican citizen, had an active arrest warrant in Mexico related to organized crime and the trafficking of firearms, ammunition, and explosives. He is also accused of overstaying a tourist visa that expired in February 2024, after entering the country in August 2023.

According to Chavez Jr.'s attorney, Michael Goldstein, the boxer was apprehended by federal agents near his home. Goldstein stated that the current allegations are meant to terrorize the community.

Chavez Jr. is the son of former three-division world champion Julio Cesar Chavez. His recent defeat to Jake Paul marked Paul's return to the ring after a previous victory. Paul controlled much of the fight, while Chavez Jr. offered limited resistance.

Paul's professional record now stands at twelve wins and one loss, and he is aiming for a world title shot. Chavez Jr. previously held the WBC middleweight championship, which he won in 2011. His career has been marked by controversies and suspensions, including a positive drug test in 2009 and a suspension and fine in 2013. One of his most notable defeats was against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in 2017.
