The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) announced the interception of over $20 million worth of illicit drugs from suspected traffickers. The haul included a significant quantity of narcotics.
The USCG reported that approximately 2,220 pounds of cocaine and 3,320 pounds of marijuana were offloaded at Coast Guard Base Miami Beach. This operation was described as a collaborative effort.
Commander Brian Gismervik, commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Northland, emphasized the importance of teamwork in preventing harmful substances from entering communities. He highlighted the need for combined efforts from various agencies and international partners to combat transnational criminal organizations within the maritime environment.
The seized drugs were the result of four separate encounters in the Caribbean Sea. The operation involved the participation of the Royal Canadian Navy, the Royal Netherlands Navy, and the U.S. Navy.
The Coast Guard also shared images of a deployed Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron team aboard the Royal Netherlands navy ship Friesland encountering a suspected drug smuggling vessel off the coast of Venezuela on June 15. No information on the suspects involved has been released by the Coast Guard.
