Sean "Diddy" Combs was found guilty on Wednesday of offenses related to prostitution. However, he was cleared of more serious charges following a criminal trial. Two of the music mogul's former girlfriends testified, alleging that he had physically and sexually abused them.
The conviction was for transportation to engage in prostitution. Combs was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and two counts of sex trafficking. This outcome represents a partial victory for the former billionaire, who is known for his significant contributions to hip-hop music and American culture.
Following the jury's verdict, Combs' defense lawyer requested that the judge release him on bail. The lawyer argued that this was Combs' first conviction, and it pertained to a prostitution offense, suggesting that release with appropriate conditions would be suitable.
Combs faces a potential maximum prison sentence of ten years for each of the two prostitution counts. The sentencing will be determined by United States District Judge Arun Subramanian at a later date. The acquittals on the sex trafficking charges mean he will avoid a mandatory minimum sentence of fifteen years. He could have faced a life sentence if convicted on sex trafficking or racketeering conspiracy charges.
Prosecutors alleged that Combs used his business empire over two decades to force two of his romantic partners into drug-fueled, extended sexual performances with male sex workers. These events, sometimes referred to as "Freak Offs," allegedly took place in hotel rooms while Combs watched, masturbated, and occasionally filmed.
During raids of Combs' homes, authorities discovered drugs and a large quantity of baby oil and lubricant, which prosecutors claimed were used in the performances. Combs, aged 55, had previously pleaded not guilty to all five counts. His legal team acknowledged that the Bad Boy Records founder had been violent in his domestic relationships at times. However, they maintained that the sexual activity described by the prosecution was consensual.

I'm keeping an open mind until all the details come out. We're only hearing one side of the story.

The fact that he's still a billionaire after all of this is disgusting. Money sure buys a lot of protection.

I can't believe people are still supporting him. The allegations alone are horrific. How can anyone listen to his music now?

People hate to see a successful Black man. This is just another attempt to tear him down.
