Singapore is gearing up to host the World Aquatics Championships with its largest contingent to date, comprising 72 athletes competing in five different aquatic disciplines. Announced by Singapore Aquatics president Kenneth Goh, this year's team includes 30 athletes who will be making their first appearance at the championship, highlighting the extensive talent development and vision for future success in the nation’s aquatics program.
Goh acknowledged that this achievement is a result of long-term investment in athlete development pathways and infrastructure, as well as strong support for both athletes and coaches. In comparison, Singapore had 27 athletes participating in four disciplines during the previous championships held in Fukuoka in 2023, showcasing the country's growth in this field.
The World Aquatics Championships will feature six disciplines including swimming, water polo, diving, artistic swimming, open water swimming, and high diving, although Singapore will not be participating in high diving this year. Scheduled from July 11 to August 3, the event is particularly significant as it coincides with Singapore’s 60th anniversary of independence. Goh emphasized the nation’s ambition, stating that while Singapore has established itself as a formidable competitor in regional aquatics, the goal is to challenge for global supremacy.
