The Yukon government has lifted the evacuation alert for the Ethel Lake area. However, the wildfire that triggered the alert on June 24th remains uncontrolled.
Access to Ethel Lake Road is restricted to local traffic only. The Ethel Lake campground will stay closed as it serves as a base for wildland fire crews actively fighting the blaze.
On Monday, the Francis Plateau fire, located east of Stewart Crossing in central Yukon, showed reduced activity. Fire behavior was low, with minimal smoke observed in the evening. The fire covers an area of approximately 7.5 square kilometers.
Firefighters are focusing on extinguishing hotspots along the south, southwest, and western perimeters of the fire. Two helicopters are assisting with water bucket operations.
The fire in the Mayo region is one of roughly 85 active wildfires currently burning in Yukon. It is also designated as one of the territory's seven "wildfires of note." These fires are highlighted due to their visibility or potential impact on public safety, communities, or essential infrastructure.

Another campground closed? Tourism in the Yukon is going to take a major hit because of this.

Thankful for the reduced activity at the Francis Plateau fire! Every little bit helps.

How can they say it's safe enough to lift the alert but not safe enough to use the road? Confused!

Let's hope the weather cooperates and helps bring these fires under control. Thinking of everyone affected.
