The city of Izhevsk, often referred to as the "armoury capital of Russia," experienced a wave of panic today as Ukraine targeted a significant military plant with Lyutyi kamikaze drones. These drones flew over 750 miles to strike the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant Kupol, causing a massive explosion and subsequent fire. As gunfire echoed around the area, residents fled in fear, engulfed by choking smoke that filled the city.
Russia confirmed that the attack resulted in three deaths and injured at least 31 individuals. This facility is crucial to the Russian military as it manufactures short-range air defense systems, including the Tor-M2E missile system and military radar equipment. The assault occurred without any prior air raid warnings, contributing to a tragic number of casualties, as two drones attacked the plant in a rapid succession.
Andriy Kovalenko, who leads Ukraine’s Centre for Counteracting Disinformation, reported explosions in Izhevsk and highlighted the significance of the Kupol plant in the production of critical military hardware for Russian forces. Igor Brechalov, the head of the Udmurtia region, confirmed that emergency services were responding to the incident, which included medical assistance for the wounded. Izhevsk, also noted for housing the Kalashnikov arms factory, has earned its reputation as the "City of Gunsmiths.

The loss of life is tragic, and it’s shameful that such actions are being rationalized in any way.
