Musk and Trump Clash Over Spending Bill and Political Allegiances

Elon Musk expressed strong disapproval of the bill, criticizing lawmakers who supported it despite campaigning on spending cuts. He threatened to actively campaign against them in the next primary election, vowing to make it his priority. Musk also planned a poster campaign featuring the faces of these lawmakers, labeling them as "liars" for allegedly increasing America's debt.

Trump responded swiftly, criticizing Musk on Truth Social. He claimed Musk was aware of his opposition to the EV Mandate before receiving his endorsement. Trump suggested that Musk's businesses heavily relied on subsidies, implying that without them, Musk's ventures might fail. He further speculated that the country would save a significant amount if Musk's operations, including rocket launches, satellite projects, and electric car production, were discontinued.

Trump also mocked Musk's role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a department created during Trump's administration. Musk had claimed DOGE saved billions by reducing the federal workforce. Musk, who had previously contributed a substantial amount to Trump's 2024 campaign, had since turned against the former president due to the bill, calling it "utterly insane and destructive." He accused the administration of increasing national debt while undermining his cost-cutting efforts.

In recent weeks, Musk intensified his criticism, calling the legislation a "disgusting abomination." He even briefly posted, then deleted, a claim linking Trump to Jeffrey Epstein files, a move he later admitted "went too far." Musk subsequently apologized for some of his posts about Trump. Trump responded positively, stating he appreciated Musk's apology.
