Colin Allred, who previously served as a Texas Representative, is gearing up for another attempt at securing a U.S. Senate seat after his recent defeat to Republican Senator Ted Cruz just eight months ago. This time, he aims to contest the position currently held by Republican Senator John Cornyn, who is also facing challenges within his party, particularly from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Allred made his candidacy official with a campaign video released on Tuesday, where he openly critiqued both Cornyn and Paxton, claiming they are "too corrupt to care about us and too weak to fight for us." Drawing from his personal history as a former NFL linebacker and attorney, he shared his journey from being undrafted to achieving professional football success and purchasing a home for his mother. He voiced his belief that home ownership shouldn't be reserved for those with significant advantages, stating, "Everything is backwards" and highlighting the struggles of those who play by the rules in contrast to those who exploit the system.
In his video, Allred pledged to run on a platform focused on anti-corruption. "I know Washington is broken," he asserted, emphasizing the need for changes within the political framework. During his time in Congress, he prided himself on not accepting corporate PAC money or engaging in stock trading, framing his campaign as a fight against a "rigged" system.
Although Allred's announcement comes on the heels of his loss to Cruz, which was marked as one of the most expensive Senate races in the last cycle, he is determined to make a significant impact. Allred, who had a four-season career with the Tennessee Titans, initially entered Congress by flipping a Republican district in Dallas in 2018. Additionally, former astronaut Terry Virts has also entered the Senate race as a Democratic contender.

Allred's campaign slogan sounds great, but what's the actual plan? Where's the substance?

Running against Cornyn won't change anything if Allred can't present a real vision for Texas.

So tired of these political celebrities who think their past fame gives them a free pass in politics.

The last thing we need is another candidate who thinks they can fix Washington from within.

Allred couldn't even win a Senate seat last time. Why should we believe he has a shot now?
