Responding to comments from US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Indo-Pacific Commander Admiral Samuel Paparo, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, Chen Binhua, stated that certain individuals in the US are exploiting the narrative of a "China military threat" for their own purposes. Chen believes this is a pretext for US interference in Taiwan's affairs and a way for the US military-industrial complex to profit.
Chen emphasized that the US consistently prioritizes its own interests, and its actions are harmful to Taiwan. He accused the US of potentially using Taiwan's residents as pawns. Chen reiterated that Taiwan is part of China and that China will not allow any force to create a destructive situation on the island.
The spokesperson urged the US to uphold the one-China principle and the agreements outlined in the three China-US joint communiques. He called on the US to stop sending signals that could be interpreted as support for "Taiwan independence" and to cease actions that escalate tensions in the Taiwan Straits.
Regarding an article in the US magazine Foreign Affairs, which advocated for the US to clarify its stance against "Taiwan independence," Chen expressed appreciation for these "rational voices." He noted a growing number of foreign experts and scholars who have voiced concerns about the intentions of Taiwan's regional leader regarding "Taiwan independence." Chen attributed the complex situation in the Taiwan Straits to the Democratic Progressive Party authorities' refusal to acknowledge the 1992 Consensus and their pursuit of "Taiwan independence" with external support.

This is just a way to intimidate Taiwan and the US. They want to control the narrative.

Chen is right. The US is using Taiwan as a pawn against China.

Calling Taiwan residents "pawns" is dehumanizing and completely dismisses their agency.

Another day, another CCP talking point. They're experts at projection.

They’re acting like Taiwan belongs to them. It's a separate, democratic entity.
