Clashes Erupt at Serbian Anti-Government Protest in Belgrade

On Saturday, Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, witnessed a significant anti-government protest. The demonstration was primarily directed against the populist President Aleksandar Vucic, with participants demanding that early parliamentary elections be held. The scale of the rally indicated a considerable level of dissatisfaction with the current administration.

The protest, however, was not without incident. Riot police were deployed to manage the large gathering, and this led to clashes between law enforcement and the demonstrators. The confrontations resulted in the detention of dozens of individuals who were participating in the protest. The atmosphere became tense as the situation unfolded.

Beyond the political demands, the protest also served as a moment of remembrance. Demonstrators observed a period of silence, lasting for 16 minutes. This act of solidarity was dedicated to the 16 people who had tragically perished in the roof collapse at the Novi Sad railway station in November 2024. The inclusion of this memorial highlighted the broader concerns of the protesters, extending beyond immediate political grievances.

Violence doesn’t solve anything. People should protest peacefully, not create chaos.

Solidarity is powerful. The memory of the tragic loss at the railway station should not be forgotten!

These protests only hurt our international reputation. What do you think foreign investors will think?
