Members of the White House and the Trump administration have strongly refuted claims made by the Miami Herald regarding the administration's actions towards migrant foster children. The newspaper had reported that the administration was targeting these vulnerable children for deportation.
The Miami Herald's article alleged that the Trump administration was expanding its deportation efforts to include unaccompanied minors, reducing funding for their legal representation, and sending Homeland Security agents to conduct welfare checks at the homes where these children were released. The article also stated that the administration was expediting deportations for minors who were documented victims of abuse, neglect, or abandonment.
In response, Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, dismissed the Miami Herald's report as "completely false" and an "absolute embarrassment to journalism." She stated that the DHS was actually leading efforts to ensure the safety of these children.
Furthermore, McLaughlin emphasized that President Donald Trump and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem were taking the responsibility to protect children seriously and were working with law enforcement to reunite the hundreds of thousands of migrant children that the Biden Administration had lost track of. The Department of Homeland Security's official X account also highlighted the large number of unaccompanied children lost under the Biden administration.
A White House spokesperson accused the Biden administration of turning a blind eye to the illegal smuggling of migrant children and their subsequent exploitation. Trump border czar Tom Homan echoed these sentiments, claiming that the Biden administration had allowed the trafficking of hundreds of thousands of migrant children. White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson called the Miami Herald's reporting "disgusting and false" and demanded an apology. She asserted that the Trump administration was working to locate the children that the Biden administration had allegedly failed to protect.

The goal is to protect children from traffickers and cartel violence. A crucial step.
