On Monday, Iran attempted to target the Al Udeid air base in Qatar with a missile strike, which was perceived as retaliation for recent American airstrikes on significant nuclear facilities in Iran. However, the attack was effectively countered by a remarkable missile defense effort from the US, as confirmed by President Donald Trump, who deemed Iran's launch of 14 missiles a feeble response that was adequately dealt with.
General Dan Caine, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, provided insights during a Pentagon briefing, detailing how the defense was mounted. According to him, two Patriot missile batteries fired a substantial number of rounds to intercept the incoming threats, indicating that this engagement could be unprecedented in US military history. He also acknowledged the collaboration with Qatari Patriot crews in this defense operation, although he did not disclose exact figures for operational security reasons.
Caine highlighted the rapid pace of the threat, stating that the American soldiers stationed at the base had merely two minutes to respond following the detection of the missiles. He remarked on the courage and effectiveness of the 44 American service members who were tasked with the base’s defense, referring to them as the unsung heroes of the modern army. Trump noted that although Iran issued a forewarning about the missiles, only one missile ultimately landed since it was projected to move in a direction deemed non-threatening, and thankfully, no injuries were reported. Additionally, it was disclosed that US forces had been repositioned away from Al Udeid after receiving intelligence about the impending strikes.

The fact that the US had to reposition forces shows this is a dangerous game. Too many risks involved!

This type of military engagement can lead to catastrophic consequences. We need to focus on de-escalation.
