A migrant camp, situated on Park Lane in one of London’s upscale areas, drew considerable attention when an individual was caught defecating against a fence right before a visit from Conservative MP Chris Philp. Philp was accompanied by the Investigations Editor of the Express, Zak Garner-Purkis, as they arrived to witness the camp, which was shortly scheduled for evacuation by officials.
Investigations indicated that the site was being used for organized begging, and there were instances of people consuming alcohol as early as 6 AM. During a visit from Express journalists, one individual even propositioned them for sex. Philp expressed his discontent that the camp remained in place during his visit and directly questioned the residents about their circumstances, specifically asking, "How come you're living here in tents?" This sparked a heated exchange with one resident who responded angrily to the MP, leading Philp to advise him to "take it easy."
Another resident informed Philp that many at the camp were migrants from Romania and Bulgaria. They also suggested that Chris and Zak engage with another group present in the vicinity. Prior to its dismantling, the camp was home to approximately 30 individuals living in 19 tents. Subsequently, early Thursday morning, bailiffs arrived to evict those residing there, an action that followed media coverage by the Express highlighting the situation.
Transport for London (TfL) commented on the matter, asserting that no one should have to endure sleeping on the streets and highlighting that Park Lane is a high-traffic area unsuitable for rough sleeping. They noted previous enforcement actions taken to clear the site and acknowledged that despite ongoing outreach efforts, the camp persisted, ultimately compelling them to seek a lawful possession order from the Central London County Court to address the situation. TfL emphasized their commitment to the safety and wellbeing of all individuals involved and their determination to collaborate with partners to resolve the issue effectively.

It’s important we understand the circumstances of these migrants. They need help, not judgment.

It’s crucial to highlight issues like these so we can advocate for better solutions for vulnerable people.

It's unbelievable that we allow this to happen in a city as wealthy as London!

Kudos to Chris Philp for engaging directly with the residents! We need more politicians to do this!

Disgraceful behavior from the migrants. If they're living in a tent, maybe they should think about their choices!
