A bus carrying students from Barton Peveril Sixth Form College crashed off a road in Eastleigh, Hampshire, and into a river. The incident occurred on Thursday, June 26th. Three individuals were transported to the hospital, while 14 others received treatment at the scene. Hampshire Constabulary confirmed that all individuals on the bus had been accounted for following the accident, which was reported at 10:07 am. A parent whose son was on the bus reported that the son did not appear to be seriously injured. The parent mentioned receiving a message about the accident and was relieved to hear that their son and his friends were unharmed. Photos from the scene depicted the bus submerged in the River Itchen.
Another parent shared that their son, who was on board, was sitting with a blanket and a monitor on his finger when the crash occurred. The son reportedly did not fully understand what had happened, stating that the bus "crashed and gone in the river." An incident center was established at The Hub at Bishopstoke to provide updates and address questions about the incident.
Police warned that the road might be closed for up to 12 hours for investigation and recovery efforts. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed that everyone on the bus had been accounted for. The injured individuals were receiving treatment from the ambulance service. A large crane arrived at the scene to assist in removing the bus from the river.
Barton Peveril Sixth Form College urged people to avoid the scene as emergency services responded. The college staff were working closely with the police to ensure the safety and well-being of all students. The college also directed concerned parents to the Incident Centre at The Hub at Bishopstoke.
The bus company, Bluestar, confirmed that one of its drivers and two passengers had sustained injuries. The company's general manager stated that they were investigating the circumstances of the incident and assisting the police. Hampshire fire service confirmed their presence at the scene, with crews from multiple stations in attendance.
South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) reported that three individuals were being treated as "high priority" and had been taken to the hospital. Approximately 14 other individuals sustained less serious injuries and were treated at the scene.
