Drug Dealer Known as 'Harry Pothead' Sentenced to Jail for Five Years

Jack Hartley, a 31-year-old drug dealer who referred to himself as 'Harry Pothead' on Instagram, was apprehended by police and sentenced to over five years in prison. Using the alias inspired by the popular Harry Potter series, Hartley marketed cannabis and cocaine to potential buyers through his social media account. The Merseyside Police managed to trace his identity without any magical means and discovered that Hartley had a previous criminal record of drug-related offenses.

During the investigation, officers identified the Instagram account "HarryPothead25," which frequently promoted various cannabis strains and hinted at the availability of cocaine using a snowflake emoji. The police accessed the IP address linked to the account, leading them to Hartley's mother’s home in Tuebrook, Liverpool, where they found a large bag of cocaine hidden in a cement mixer, alongside cash and drug paraphernalia. Hartley was found in an adjacent property, where he attempted to destroy several mobile phones linked to his drug activities.

This incident marked Hartley’s third conviction for drug trafficking, which he was already serving a license for at the time of his arrest. The court imposed a serious crime prevention order on him previously, which required him to reside at his mother’s, yet he failed to comply with its terms. In court, Hartley acknowledged his pattern of behavior, and his defense noted that he had the potential to change after his release, expressing a willingness to break the cycle of reoffending. Ultimately, he was sentenced to five years and eight months behind bars, and supporters in the court expressed their love as he was taken away.
