A woman and her four children in Syracuse, New York, have adhered to an order from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, leading them to detainment despite the fact that three of the children were born in the United States. Their pastor, Paul Reynoso, reported that the family was relocated to an ICE facility in Texas after the woman's husband was arrested at their home the previous Friday, and they received a notice to report for detainment the following day.
Although the family’s legal representatives submitted documentation to counter the detainment, ICE agents insisted they comply with the orders. Pastor Reynoso noted that while there was an offer to keep the children safe with the church community, the mother opted to keep her family intact during this time of turmoil; all children regularly attend local schools. According to reports, the family is originally from Guatemala and has been residing in the U.S. for more than ten years.
While the family is reportedly being provided housing in a hotel during their detainment, ICE’s recent actions have sparked significant public discontent, especially as the agency intensifies its operations against undocumented migrants, notably in Democrat-led cities, as part of a broader immigration enforcement strategy endorsed by President Trump. A recent protest in Los Angeles culminated in heightened tensions, leading authorities to deploy the National Guard and Marines, contradicting the wishes of state and city officials.
The growing backlash against ICE's tactics has also prompted solidarity demonstrations in various cities, including New York and Chicago, expressing outrage at such detentions. The situation reflects ongoing concerns about the agency's practices, which have drawn public ire after incidents involving the arrest of individuals like a breastfeeding mother and a decorated military veteran choosing to return to their home country after facing deportation threats.

Sending this family to Texas is a disgrace. They have been contributing to our community for over a decade.

Why are we providing so much sympathy? They made a choice to come without proper documentation.

Why are we punishing children for their mother's decisions? They deserve to be safe and protected.

I can't believe how cruel this is. Let's advocate for justice and compassion for all families.
